If you're using it on your home pc then no, you don't need anti virus or firewall because home users use OSX and Windows mostly so hackers have not developed any serious viruses for Linux..but if you're running it on server then make sure you use some firewall (APF, Csf etc..)
Well, any linux desktop installation will come with a built in firewall, but so far it's virus free.
And unlinke Windows' Firewall, Linux Builtin Firewall is pretty good which can be configured according to you needs with a CLI or GUI. And as KO said, no viruses on Linux so far.
