External HDD / USB Transfer Rate

Whats the practical Transfer rate you guys have observed while transferring to External HDD. I never acheived more than 27-28mb/sec download. Did you had any chance ?

They mention rate of around 450+ over the internet. Am i missing some point

USB 2.0 limitation. Most of our portable hard drives are connected using USB 2.0. USB 2.0 can't power 3.5" disks or transfer data as fast as firewire or USB 3.0.

USB 2.0 Transfer limit is 60 MB. that 400 was in MBit/Sec. !! But still, why do we get less than 50% of the performance

Yeah, So any guru who can solve the myth ?>

It's normal. Getting 27-28Mb over USB 2.0 is good enough I think. That is why the NASes are made. For higher speed check http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/component/option,com_nas/Itemid,190
