Your favourite (Pakistani) technology blog

What is your favourite IT-related Pakistani blog? If you are not into blogs, how do you get latest news about information technology in Pakistan? Do you follow someone on twitter, facebook, etc.?

I like http://www.itechcorner.com I also follow some indian blogs as well and Tech Crunch , Mashable are the best.

iTech Corner seems to be dormant – the last entry is 13 months old.

Yes, techcrunch and mashable are good. Can you also recommend some blogs which are about the IT scene in Pakistani, or blogs by Pakistani programmers and developers?

I opened this topic only to see the links of other Pakistani tech blogs because I only read propakistani :)

propakistani is the most famous one....however they are more focused on mobile tech only.

hacker news - https://news.ycombinator.com only

Pakistani tech blogs are very mobile-industry-centric, nothing progressive about it.

You are absolutely right about the existing Pakistani tech blogs that they are a bit too much into mobile and telecom. Thus some of us go for international/US tech blogs or sites. But the questions is how should one keep oneself updated regarding the IT scene in Pakistan? I think that we need a website that covers

  • new software and hardware products that are introduced in Pakistan;
  • introduces mobile apps and desktop programs that are developed in Pakistan for the local and international markets;
  • provides regular coverage on the job and freelance scene as well as IT degree programmes and courses, etc.

On a similar theme, one of the most popular programming Q&A websites is stackoverflow.com but sometime ago when I was searching for something about Urdu computing and Nastalique fonts, I didn’t find the answer there. A google search led me to a Pakistani Urdu forum which I found to be moderately active in all things related to Urdu fonts. The point is: we need Pakistan-specific content be it in the shape of blogs and news websites, or forums where IT walas and tech enthusiasts can discuss and learn from each other.

Hey,

I would like to recommend you ProPakastani.com

@ Pakistani IT will get there soon.

@ Nastalique fonts:

I am very pro natalique and I hate the fact the facebook and other main stream website are using naksh for urdu. This is bad for our language in my opinion.

I think the best resource out there for urdu fonts is http://font.urduweb.org/. Google has also been working on some urdu fonts @ https://www.google.com/get/noto/#nastaliq-aran

A friend of mine has been developing urdu fonts for years @ https://sourceforge.net/projects/paktype/

We are also working on some initiatives for promoting (rather making it “easy” for developers to use) natalique in their apps and web.
