Working with SMD components?

How to start working with SMD components? What is the easiest way? & more importantly how to check circuit made of SMD components? Each time made a PCB? or Is there some other ways to check the working of circuit?

thanks

SMD Technology has many advantages but the obvious disadvantage is that prototyping is not easy as compared to through hole parts. Even for the prototype, you need to have a PCB if you want to use SMD parts. For prototype assembly, may be you can solder SMD parts by hand but this is really a tedious job especially if you have large number of SMD parts and even more tedious if the parts are very small. Usually upto 0805 size parts can be handled manually but smaller parts are difficult.

SMD parts are very sensitive to overheat and this can be easily violated used a standard soldering iron.

Testing methods are same. Usually you need to leave some test points on the board if your SMD parts are very small as compared to the tip size of the test probes otherwise you need to have needle sharp probes.

With suitable tweezers, even 0603 passive parts can be handled manually. For ICs and such, dead bug style prototyping works well for one-off prototypes but needs care to solder and handle. Alternatively, breakout boards are usually available for standard packages (150/300 SOIC, T/SSOP, etc).

An easy solution for controlling soldering iron heat is to use fan dimmers with them. If a more reliable and accurate solution is needed, temperature controlled irons are available locally in Pakistan.

Is there any company in Pakistan that made SMD components PCB's using pick & place machines?

There are many setups in government sector and few in private sector. Private companies are in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi

For example,

MicroTech Labs Lahore

Saltec Karachi

and many more.

We have SMT facility in Pakistan. We belongs to private sector.

You may contact us for any kind of SMT of manual PCB assembly. We are working for almost all energy meter companies in Pakistan.

We have assembled millons of SMT PCBs here in Pakistan
