DLINK DIR300 , Using from past 1 and half years or may be more then that, works fine on my floor, in neighbor, ground floor and on roof,in low voltage, unstable voltage fluctuation. Satisfied

Tip for all wireless routers: put it as high as you can. The signals get beamed downwards (this is what I read) so by placing the router on the floor, you're not doing yourself good. Hook it up against a wall at a decent height, away from appliances (atleast two feet away from the nearest appliance is a good rule of thumb) and that should help you on your coverage significantly. Heck, my next-door neighbors get the signal on the ground floor - although it does get quite weak there.

But then - make sure you encrypt the router.

You may read this thread http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=43810&highlight=.

Also post screenshots of Inssid which can be downloaded from http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/download. Or else use Netstumbler.

You can also try a Wokfi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WokFi, Simple and easy.

i made a windsurfur today for my wireless router antenna. it supposed to give a specific direction to the signals, so rather them being going all around, they just go the direction you want it to be.

So far i havent really felt any difference, the router is still giving the same amount of signals as per my Lenovo readycom meter. maybe my wireless card is not that strong.

Here is a video , i made something very similar, check it out:
