Which Comic Book Superhero Was/Is Your Favorite?

#1

Yeah Superman was OK. Faster than a bullet. More powerful

than a speeding locomotive. X-ray vision, laser from eyes and

cold air puffer. Fine. But not my favorite.

Now the superhero I liked was The Green Lantern. Anybody

remember him ?. This guy could fashion ANYthing out of his

green ring and kick your a55 with it. :P

I looked at my brother's comic books the other day and my,

how they've changed over the years. I saw a news clip about

this Kuwaiti comic designer who has come out with an Islamic

comic book series, with Muslim superheros. Anybody here read

or heard about them ?. They're called The 99 (after the 99

names of Allah).

Muslim superhero?! :/

I'm all for religion, but sometimes people seem to be trying too hard! :)

Here are a couple of links: 1, 2, 3, 4.

I wonder if, out of the 99, which one, if any, is from

Pakistan and what kinda powers does he hold. :)

You guys have brought up an interesting point. What makes a

hero, a superhero ?. Is it the strength of their character, or

their superhuman abilities (or does it have to be both ?).

If it's the latter, you can chuck Batman, Robin, Captain America

and others like them, out the window. I like Batman too, but it

was not because of his bat-toys, but the dark and mysterious

ways in which his character (was drawn and) operated. The last

Batman movie, made his character so frail and human (getting

hurt and affected by toxins) that it was a little unsettling.

Maybe in these PC times, the comic writers and movie producers

are willfully trying to pitch superheroes into battle where the

hero vanquishes his enemies through his moral courage and

indefatigable spirit, rather than using the crutch of his superhuman

abilities. Likewise, they have tried to 'humanize' Superman in the

last movie and ended up, IMO, to have turned him into a super

softie and a supersissy. :)

I don't want to be able to identify with a superhero. I want him

to prevail where mortals would fail. They are mixing superheros

with film heroes and I want my real superhero back. Any takers ?.
