Whats better? Intel E8400 or Q6600

#1

I was going through galaxy's website where i came across the processors section.. Now i got a lil confused b/w the prices of these these two processors..

Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz (6MB CACHE - 1333 MHZ FSB) &

Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40Ghz (8MB CACHE - 1066 MHZ FSB)

Both the processors are being sold at similar prices i.e Rs 17,000 each.. So i was wondering which would be better if one was to be choosen

go for the e8400 coz it has higher clock speeds and FSB and it will work faster

quad core processors are useless till now coz there are not many applications that can utilize four cores

40mbps, if you use ur pc mainly for video-editting, 3d-modelling, other processor-intensive applications, you might want to go for the q6600.

if you just use ur pc for games and browsing and movie and office-work then e8400 is more than enough for you (as mentioned, it has higher clock speed, a faster bus and a bigger cache-per-core as compared to the q6600)

I had to make the same choice a year back between a E6850 or a Q6600. I'm went for the Quad and I'm happy with my choice. I burn a lot of movies and play some games. Movie encoding is twice as fast and games are beginning to utilize more cores, Supreme Commander for instance. The faster fsb does not mean much in real work applications, unless you're overclocking. You'll have to also spend a lot more getting native 1333 RAM. I think it costs more than three times that of 800 fsb ram and twice as much as 1066 Ram.

I ran my q6600 o'c'd to 3.2 mhz most of the times and sometimes to 3.4 mhz but personally I don't really care. Movie encoding is perhaps 4 mins faster at 3.2 than at 2.4. I can wait :)

More cores will last you longer.
