# What is your PTCL DSL speed?

Hi

I would like to know someting from PTCL DSL users.

In a 512Kbps connection what are u getting? Download speed is 512kbps and upload speed is 256 or 128Kbps??

^ A connection of 512kbps never means that it would give the same amount of download speed. I think connection speed when divided by 8 gives you the approx. download speed (for 512kbps connection-->512/8=64KB max download speed)[please correct me if I am wrong here]

I am using the same connection i.e. 512kbps. Getting 50KB down and 15KB up speeds(on utorrent, with port forwarded)

Please note that there is a difference between kbps and KBps.

1 kbps = 0.125 KBps therefore

512 kbps = 0.125 x 512 => 64 KBps

kbps = KiloBITS and KBps = KiloBYTES

Also note that ADSL cuts your speed down by about 5-15%, TCP/IP cuts it down again by about 5-10%, and BitTorrent or µtorrent overheads cuts it down again by about 5-25% (depending on settings).

Although you can change some configuration of your pc to maximize the speed but it will still not give you the MAXimum speed.

Why? I mean the basis on which this relation is calculated?

Thanks for reply everyone but 1st of all Ivent asked abt difference between KBps or Kbps. I know that already. 2nd I also know one can Never get FULL or Maximum Bytes. My question was just abt UPLOAD speed here. Are u getting 128Kbps or 256Kbps.

Since Ive used Micronet for almost 4 years. I had download speed around 55kb and upload speed around 25kb because Micronet give you 512kbps download and 256kbps upload. Currently PTCL is giving me 512kbps download speed but upload speed is around 112Kbps, not even 128Kbps. SO I was wondering if its same with everyone else or just me.

My friend, this is calculation based on the Bits and Bytes.

Bit: Single Binary Digit (1 or 0)

1 Byte: 8 bits

1 Kilobyte(KB): 1,024 Bytes or » 8192 bits

So if 1 Byte = 8 Bits, then similarly 1 Bit = 1/8 => 0.125 Bytes

So in above post if you remove K and ps you will only get

1 b = 0.125 B

As Byte is denoted by capital “B” and bit is denoted by small "b"

I hope this explains it all. If you need more detail please feel free to ask me.

I'm on 512k PTCL DSL

normally my conneciton is around 55 Kbytes/sec Dnld, and 5 Kbytes/sec Upload. Sometimes its around 50kBytes/sec Dnld, and 10kBtyes/sec upload. Thats it!!

at my office the speed is usually between 100 KB - 120 KB

at home between 80KB-100KB

:/

my 2mb gave me

250+kB/s

Ptcl Gives 1/4th the upload speed.

i get 51 dlod and uploads on torents are always more than 55 and less then 65. yes yes i know i get more. dont cry. my uploads are good i know. in seeding the average is 62 at 5minutes. thats good for 512? isnt it? btw dont cry.

~50 D/10 U KBps

On my 512 connection I typically get 430/198 kbps

Micronet gives you a dedicated upload and download slot. So if you were on a 512/256 package on micronet, you were the only one on that slot and depending on your line, you would get max dl/up speed minus the line loss on your telephone line.

Ptcl does not give you a dedicated upload slot. So on ptcl package of 512/256, you share the upload speed with other users and depending on the load you may get any speed between 120 kbps to your max allowed speed after considering line loss. I am not sure about the ptcl download slot but my download speed usually varies only a small amount 420 kbps to 440 kbps.

Hope this helps
