Wat PC is Required for Networking?

#1

im taking a PTCL 1 MB Link. and i want to share a speed with my friends... so wat configuration is required for making a server ? (1 server + 4-6 Clients = 5-7 Users)

and i also want to know that wat kind of PTCL is Launching there PacKage ?

is that :

1024 kbps (kilo bits per second) ??

1024 kB/sec (kilo Bytes per seconds) ??

#2

the package is 1024 kilobits

to share the connection u can buy a router or recycle ur oldcomputer and make that a router by installing specialised distros of linux like IPcop or smoothwall

#3

you can share even without a server, just use a switch. The headache of the server wont be worth it. But you will have to bear with the inconsistent speeds

#4

if it the link is 1024 Kbps then it is so bullshit pacKage :(

men im confuzed :s ....

the Current Net that im using, is taking me 50-60 KB/sec (average) and 100 - 150 kB/sec (Maximum)

please chk this ..........

-------------------------------------------------

8 bit = 1 byte

then 50 bytes x 8 = 400 Kbps (:o)

(half Link to mujhe mera Cable wala he de raha hai then y i and other ppl take PTCL ??)

(this is my local Cable wala connection speed (:D))

-------------------------------------------------

1024 kilobits (informal notation: kilobyte = 1024 bytes)

bits = 1048576

bytes = 131072

kilobits = 1024

kilobytes = 28

megabits = 1

megabytes = 0.125

gigabits = 0.0009765625

gigabytes = 0.0001220703125

terabytes = 1.19209289550781e-07

petabytes = 1.16415321826935e-10

--------------------------------------------------------

are u sure that it is 1024 Kilo Bits ?? [:o]

u mean “Line In” into Modem and “Line Out” to switch ?? or maKing a “Bridge Connection” ??

and wat is a Requirement of SERVER ?? wat Configuration is best for Making a Server ? how much Ram , Processor, etc…?

Wrong math!

400 kilo-bits/second = 50 kilo-bytes/second

50 kilo-bytes/second = 51200 bytes/second

You can only wish but you can’t afford 1MB (megabyte/second) connection.

1 mega-byte/second = 8192 kilo-bits/second = 8 mega-bits/second

If I am not wrong then price of such dedicated connection might be from 100 thousand to 500 thousand rupees (usually use as backbone).

PTCL is giving 1024 kilo-bits/second = 1 mega-bits/second

It’s is more than enough than you can play with it.

Fe-Aman Allah.

@ Wampyr

oooh.. na na dear . ur math and my math is rite but u don understand my problem ... :s

currently i hav :

1200 Kbps (kilo bits)

or

150 kBps (kilo bytes)

this is My downloading speed @ local Cable Connection.

and wat abt Server Configuration ?? [:o]

Any computer that can run XP (for easy networking). 5-7 users don't need much at all.

hmmm thanx Bro .. [:)]

btw .. me and me friends are decided that we dont need PTCL 1 MB link coz its actaully 1024 Bits [:(].

so ..... we cancel to make a Happy NetworK in our Area [:D]

thanKs u all my bro .. thanK u so much
