The Mysterious IPTV

#1

hello everyone.

ptcl iptv is still not ready..

there will atleast be a few weeks delay.

ther service will offer

95 Live channels

5-10 NVOD channels

and alot of old useless ( terminator 2,twister hehe) VOD films

there is NO NpvR functionalities available at the moment.....

Time Shifitng of content is available on selected channels only , upto one hour on some channels.

ther service,as mentioned in this forum will be around Rs 9000 for the stb.

the quality of very good, Digital audio and video.however the copper wire conditions in this country are't the best.

so you can expect to get a reasoanble service in 3.5km range.....

or to be precise SNR 10+ and 46dB........

there are trial connections for a period of two months for anyone, who has a 1MB connection.....

more details on request.

:)

#2

i hav read other posts on this forum as well, NO the service does not require a 10-13Mb connection

service for iptv will only require a 3Mb connection, and 1 MB for the internet...

normally iptv runs at 2.1Mbps..

#3

there is already a dedicated thread for it

if u have read it why didnt u post in there?

#4

hehe

because that thread is based on HOPES and rumours....

just kidding.

i did not want to mix this thread, with all other iptv related threads, as some have conficting reports

#5

also,

Initially iptv will not work on ONU numbers....

bandwidth issues...

so most of KARACHI , will have to wait abit longer

#6

how can i get the trial if i want to ?

#7

lolz it wont work on ONU for which it was meant for

btw you are ptcl employee

#8

no :) i am not a ptcl employee...

i would not want to be one either....

regarding the trial connection.... best is to contact 18 and tell them you want to be apart of the iptv testing.... i am sure they will connect you to someone

regarding the ONU, each ONU here is given around 8MB/s, so if you take out 4mbps for each iptv connection.... you are done.. hahaha

ONU's will neet to be upgraded...

LOL @ IPTV not working via high bandwidth fiber optic which can easily deliver a minimal of 6-7Mbps speed.

It’s more like PTCL doesn’t has staff competent enough to deal with solutions over fiber optic, even though it is to a remote node (which is demultiplexed after it) and not to the home directly.

but this may not be the final channel list, as they have still not the permission for Multi-Choice channels.

and alot fo cable operators, being pro-active unlike ptcl have already lined up , almost an identical channel list.

the only good feature , i think is called " bookmarking" for VOD content.

But again the charges, for the VOD are not justifiable,

who would want old content and then pay for it for a period of 24-48 hours as well.

After that , if the customer wants to watch the film again, he has to pay again.

specailly when a DVD is for sale for 50 in karachi????

freaky channel list

or he cud spend no money at all and use torrents to download what he wants

since he will have iptv it is almost certain he will also have net acces so it wont be too dificult

VOD, by norm, is for new movies that are upcoming. They're supposed to emulate a cinema-experience, but at your home. So you pay for 24 hours, and you can watch it whenever. AFter 24 hours, your movie "expires".

But if it's old movies, then all I have to say is "WHAT THE HECK!?!!"

today 1236 told me tht only 1mbps and 2mbps broadband internet owners can have IPTV. Why ptcl wanna do that, what abt a huge no of 512 users. :(

#18

the monthly cost of iptv will be around 750/month ( including 400 for the stb , over a period of two years )

this excluded any VOD content, that is ordered by the customer.

This restriction is only on trial users… 1mb or 2mb connection ensures that the line is in good shap and with reasonable Sound to Noise margin, not affecting IPTV QoS. In short ptcl is saving time that they would have spent testing line quality in this trial period. The actual package will be usable with 512kbps lines.

#20

can i reauest an IPTV trial for multan? or are they just giving it in Isl. lhr and khi?
