hey guys, wanted to update you all and also bring some information to you.
i decided on purchasing a Kohler 14RES. With this in mind, I started checking around. Turned out my neighbor was already using the same genset and he gave me the number of the guy, along with glowing recommendations, from whom he bought it from. I called the dude and he said he'd come over to my office to discuss it in person. Needless to say he did not. 2 days late, he eventually turned up and we started talking. I think this guy was what is known in the generator market as an "installer" (he installs the generator and nothing more). I was under the impression (the impression given by him initially over the phone) that he was an employee of Technovision but turned out that he wasn't. He said he would get us a generator from Greaves which kind of implies that he's going to act as our agent for the purchase of the genset. So I asked him outright that where did he work? Did he work for Greaves? The answer was no, he works for Enpower. I was like whaat? So there's this dude who misrepresented himself as an employee of technovision, is going to get us a genset from Greaves but works for Enpower. Needless to say we decided not to buy through him. Be wary of such individuals fellow generator threaders.
The same day, actually during the meeting, I got a call from the Sales Manager of Technovision who had gotten a missed call from me and was returning it. So I was able to corroborate and confirm what the techno-greaves-enpower dude was telling me. I asked the technovision sales manager to give me a price which we could then negotiate from. He said the genset is for 395 but he'll give it to me for 380. I was pretty happy with the price, especially because I've heard good things about their after sales service so I asked him to drop by the next day. The guy came over. We discussed the genset, the load it can take, the extras, the installation, blah blah. and eventually the price. When it came to the price, he said he'd e-mail me and then he e-mailed me. And lo and behold, the price was 390 now. A bit surprised I called him, guessing that he must have made a mistake. But no janab, no mistake. He said that this was the final and when I reminded him that he had already given me a final of 380, he was stumped for a bit but then he decided to stand his ground and not budge which in my opinion was pretty much uncalled for. So I told him that this was unethical and I'm not gonna deal with you.
That left me with Greaves. Called them and they didn't have the generator on them at the time. They said they'll have it by mid next week but the price? They're giving it to me for 365! They guy who said he'd get the genset for us from greaves said he'd give it to us for 370.
Kher, this is what it comes down to. House was right. Everybody lies. Going with Greaves insha'Allah.
