Stay away from Iqbal Jivani and evernewtech computers in Sasi arcade

#1

Dear friends,

I would like you all to be aware of the many fraudulent laptop repair shops which actually steal components from the laptops given for repair. Here is what happened with me when I gave my sister's laptop to evernew/newtech computers located near bilal stationers in clifton sasi arcade.

I was told by a friend that the owner of the shop,Iqbal Hussain Jewani,is an honest person and that he would charge what is fair for the laptop.I had a previous experience of purchasing a laptop sleeve for my netbook from his shop and he seemed like an honest person. So when my sister's laptop had a problem that it didnt start up,I gave them the laptop for repair, along with my hp netbook, which had a problem that it would white out at random points. They tell me the charges for the mini would be 11000 rupees and for the vaio would be 7000 rupees.I agreed and after one week I received the laptops. The moment I received my hp,it started having the same problem.I called em and they said to come back after 2 days.I came and gave them the laptop again. They called me after 2 days and said that its fixed so i went there to check. It had the same problem there, but Jewani kept on insisting that this happens with windows 7.I persuaded him enough that he returned my money back for the hp mini. However I noticed that the mini had gotten much heavier and now it didn't even start up.Well after 2 months,my sister's laptop started having another problem of getting no screen upon startup.I went to them as they were the ones that had fixed the laptop prior to this, and they said that they will check and tell me what the problem is and the cost of it.I got a call after a day, saying they had fixed the laptop and that the charged were 5200 rupees.I told em that this was an exhobarant amount and asked em why they didn't tell me that before fixing. They said that they had "forgotten" to inform me.I decided there was no point in arguing further as it was of no use.I went there and asked them what the problem was with the laptop, and Jiwani said that he didn't know,he just had his men clear the dust from the laptop.Once I brought the laptop home,it started having the very same problem the next day.I went to them again and told em about it.They asked me to let them keep the laptop again and it might be a bios issue.I went there at the day they asked to collect the laptop and they said that they needed another day to install antivirus and stuff and that there are some extra charges of 3000 rupees for the clean up. My mother called them and had an argument with Iqbal Jivani about the unseen charges as 5200 rupees were already paid for the repair. He agreed to not take the 3000 rupees and asked to pick the laptop the very next day.I went there to pick the laptop up and check it.I noticed it was very very slow so I went to the properties tab and it was written that it had 1 gb ram.I was very shocked at this as the laptop had 3gb ram.I told him that and he flatly denied that the laptop had 3gb ram.I showed him the online specs of my model but he remained stuckup on his argument that the laptop had 1 gb ram from the start.I asked him to open the back of the laptop for the ram slots and there were 2 slots for ram which were both with a 2gb and 1 gb ram,but the 2gb ram was missing. He lied straight to my face that the laptop had 1gb ram from the start and refused to listen to me.I got out of there out of disgust that this 5 time namazi person turned out to be such a deceitful thief and can lie so confidently.

I dnt have any written proof with me that the laptop had 3gb ram before so I cant take action against them. However,I would like you all to consider my experience as a warning next time you give something for repair. Please give your gadget to an official repair store, not some awaain looteray like this !@#$%^& Iqbal Jewani and his fraud computer shop.I respected the guy so much, but I have lost respect in my heart. This sort of fraud happens everywhere in Pakistan, but this is the first experience which truly upset me.I don't wish to bad mouth anyone but all I want is that my experience doesn't happen with anyone else.

Another update:The laptop started showing the same problem once again and yesterday when we went to him he refused to fix it again. The laptop didn't even work for 2 days and he is blaming my sister for using it wrongly? My mother asked him to give the money back and he flatly refused. That smug had the courtesy to pretend to talk on his phone while my mother was asking him to either fix it or return the money.Iam planning on dragging him to consumer court.

Wow. The guy is incompetent, a fraud and a thief, among

other things. He not only took you for Rs. 22,500/- plus Rs.

4,500/- for the memory card (total Rs. 27,000/-) but the

mental pain and anguish, the going back 'n forth, the time

and effort expended. If I was on the jury, I would have him

return your money AND let you have a bat and go at him.

If you let it slide, he will only get emboldened and keep re-

peating this MO, with the next (trusting) customer.

Many exciting and exacting ideas are springing-up in my

mind to get even, but you should do what you think is

best.

I want to drag his ass to consumer court. Can you give me some information on the consumer court in karachi?I know the punjab court is very very effective. What other ideas can you give me?

#4

Going to court, is the right decision. Or you can go to the Anjuman-e-tajeran related to that market find some links, and use them to persuade him to pay back. Print some pamphlets "Fraud alert!" And paste them near his shop and hand it over to other shopkeepers and costumers.

Wear a green hood and Do a drive-by just like CJ! these thing are pretty common in karachi nowadays. :P

Any ways you'll have to spend money to get your money back.

Don't know anything about law, but "I dnt have any written proof with me that the laptop had 3gb ram before so I cant take action against them" might pose a problem. Dunno, Just a thought.

That is so bad! Not only you lost money but also had lots of mental torture to suffer. My sympathies are with you bro. Maybe you have a receipt for your laptop showing the model number when you had bought it. The model number is different sometimes with regard to specifications. For example I have an IBM T43 - 2668 model which is the the T43 with the highest configuration. There are also other T43s with a lower configuration with model numbers below 2668. Check it, that might be of help as an evidence that your laptop had 3GB of RAM when you first bought it.

Also, when the memory gets corrupt, Windows does not show the part of the memory that is corrupted (sometimes). This happened to our office laptops that we ordered in bulk. They had 4GB of RAM in specs but only 3Gb was showing in Windows. So get it checked hardware wise that if it really has those memory modules physically available or not or by going into BIOS and doing a memory test.

Well I didn't have written proof except I found some of the receipts and the last receipt incase if something like this happened. Also found laptop specs online and have printed them which shows original configuration 3gb ram.I think I have enough proof. And yeah that flyer idea is at work right now.My mother owns a chain of beauty parlours and these are distributed at every franchise.Till now Ive persuaded four of his clients to stop buying from him.

Well done shahbaz,I salute you for your determination of bringing him to justice.May Allah punish him severely for the cardinal sins that he has committed.

P.S:Do you have any idea about the name of the computer shop in Sassi Arcade Clifton who can purchase AMD components(processors, motherboards e.t.c) from abroad on my order?

Let the war begin dude !!!!

Brother, instead of curing such fraudiyey, we should pray to Allah to guide them to the write path and follow the Prophet’s example when the people used to curse him, throw stones and him and waste at him and when he used to pray to Allah to guide them to the right path.

#14

I've had a run in with them as well, but i ended up taking my laptop back from them before they could actually "fix" anything. Anyways goodluck, i hope things work out for you.

Curing him, is better than cursing him. So, OP, use a voice recorder when you go to him next time.

#18

@rnatbathra I checked the hardware modules too.2gb ram was missing

@mbhashmi Well in Sasi arcade there is only one shop who is actually trustworthy.I dont know the name of the shop but they are somewhat honest in their dealings. Will let you know later.

I'll now suggest you to contact other people around you who have been target by this man, gather them, make a blog, spread the words to every person you meet and it will be a good deed to save others from this guy.

If you know anyone in the police contact them, just send a mobile to his shop and he will repay you the money, hang the receipt thing, once he gets two slaps he will start singing a different tune, this is an old incident my cousin bought a 56k usr external modem and it started to stop transmitting data after 1 hour upon investigation it was found out it was a fake one and the shop keeper refused to entertain him so he had friends in the cia he contacted them and they sent a mobile to the shop he was pulling the same routine of talking on the phone so the policewala / cop pulled him off the counter and one slap bought him to his senses, he refunded the money immediately and was babbling n apologizing.

So i suggest you do the same thing, forget about evidence once he gets a spanking he will sing like a canary and if you want a receipt make one up via Ms word.
