Here's the dilemma, in a nutshell.
I have my XP installed on an old IDE (80 GB). That's all
it has, the OS. It is a healthy HD, but about 6 years old.
It doesn't give me any problems, but it runs hot (50C).
Now, I have a new SATA on which I would like to shift
the whole shebang: OS, program files, settings, blah.
01. Is it possible to do it, without having to do a clean
install and shift all the programs, one-by-one, which
took me shy of a week last time. A real PITA. I remember
talk of taking an ISO image. Can you do that, without a
USB/DVD player burner ?.
02. Is it worth it ?. Will things be noticeably faster ?.
I tried my aunt's PC the other day. We have similar builds.
She has her OS installed on a SATa. Things were literally
f-l-y-i-n-g in her box. But then she runs a bare bones
operation, without 101 programs installed, like mine.
Obviously, someone who has gone through a similar move
would probably be, in a better position to say what, but
all opinions are equally welcome.
