Satellite internet

#1

i used to hear from friends that they were using "opensky" internet service from Eutelsat for free. i wonder it's still valid because internetcard r dropped drastcally.

some europian dth providers do offer 2mp for quite reasonable price but satellite foot print hinders in this regards. anybody using satellite internet do share his?her experience.(preferably his)

opensky does provide internet but they aren't free, on the contrary they are most costly of all companies. why you wanna get opensky? you don't have access to dsl.?

you need to have this:

The Basic Requirements :

01 PCI DVB Receiver Card around 4500Rs you can watch plenty of channels.

01 Parabolic Dish Antenna 2Feet dish 8500-10000 approx

01 LNB Free with 2Feet dish

01 Cabling depends on your length 6/7 rupees per feet

01 Modem (min 33.6 kbps) simple dialup modem 400Rs for brand new.

note: prices of the DVB card and dish and cable are two months old, from hall road Lahore.

and this is their tariff http://www.opensky.com.pk/tariff.htm

the most cheap one is providing 200kBps speed for 2500RS with 300MB limit.

300MB will be sucked in 1 hour LOL

i considered opensky a few years back. but then i learnt about the high prices and the need of a dialup for uplink ... so the setup sucks all in all. unless its uplink+download service (in one whole dish package) , its useless

#7

Actually my desi cablewala was using it a year ago & he told us that it cost 8000 per month unlimited 128kbps & he got uplink(dialup) from nxlinks.

But now opensky has revised their p[ackages.Check this

Well I really enjoyed this service coz even 1.5 yrs ago I was getting a speed of upto80kbps at morning when other loacl users were not on but at evening 2-7kbps.

I want broadband for my farm. Anyone using satellite internet here? How much would the equipment cost? And what are the monthly charges? I am more interested in the unlimited onez,if not too much overpriced... Why is sattelite internet unnecessarily overpriced in our part of the world?

If there was unlimited edge package available in my area I would have grabbed it..

Telenor offers edge but with 20+rs/mb its unreasonably expensive...

well satellite internet is very very costly check the link http://www.opensky.com.pk/tariff.htm

about telenor i think they are providing unlimited edge service in postpaid package. i don’t know exactly the charges but i read somewhere in these forums that it was like 1000 rupees per month. i also don’t have access to high speed internet in my area so believe me i know it sucks.

I have acess yar, since the wateen launch. +There is Wavenet available..I am talking about the village. For people with no acess to broadband,I feel zong edge/gprs is the best available option(unlimited) if avilable..

Otherwise Warid is the best option,it is widely available..600 something rupees on post paid...

#11

I feel this opensky is highly overpriced..Is their a cheaper alternative for a two way satellite internet?

How much would the equipment cost?

Money ..as they say..root of all evil today. I am sure you can get that from the black market. Black market as in pay extra..

#19

there are some kinda restrictions imposed by govt. dey dont allow two way sattelite internet, yew can just have downlink....i have heard from many people that, they get all the equipment mentioned abuv, find some link(frequency) , some how figure out its user-authentication information and connect for free....and im very sure about this that people used to use free high speed sattelite internet

#20

Yar,government has these stupid restrictions due to red tape. You pay extra and you can bypass the restriction..Get the banned stuff ..
