SATA case

I have SATA case (box that allows me to connect SATA HDD to USB)

Can i connect SATA DVD burner through SATA case ?

Has anyone used 1TB or 1.5TB hard disk with SATA case ?

Yes.

No.

yes

cuz there are such usb portable dvd writers out there

Saad, i doubt your DVD burner will FIT in the Hard disc case (even if its a 3.5" one).

But yeah, you can connect it through the cable/interface provided.

Burner would not fit in any SATA case, i just need to connect it once or twice per month to backup stuff from HDD.

I have a WD 80GB IDE, can I use this as an external HDD?

Yes you can, you will need an IDE case for that

2. I bought 1TB WD Green Caviar and it is working fine with SATA case.

^thanx

How much does this SATA case cost… is it easily available in market.

Also kindly let me know, how much does 1TB WD Caviar HD cost?

SATA Case cost Rs.~500-1300 (depending on brand), i bought the one made by Alfa (or alpha) for Rs.1000. It is easily available.

1TB WD Green Caviar (cache 16mb) cost me Rs. 9300 (suitable as an external or backup drive), don't buy it if you want to use it as your primary hard disk, it is slower than Caviar Black and Seagate (these cost slightly less than Rs. 10,000). Caviar Green has two advantages over others, uses less power, and makes almost no noise (the only thing that i hear is a click when i start drive).

Thanks Saad... i intend to use the 1TB HDD as a backup, so it seems that WD Green Caviar is perhaps the most suitable option.

which one is better brand - WD or Seagte or Maxtor?

from reviews i have read,

Seagate

WD

Maxtor,

There isn't much difference in their performance (excluding green caviar) but seagate is more reliable (annual failure rate ~0.34) compared to WD (~0.66). The annual failure rates are quoted from their sites, they might not be comparable.

(WD = Seagate) >>> Maxtor

^Agreed

Also wd is much quieter then seagate

I would modify the rating if you consider other brands like Samsung. Then it would become:

Samsung (SpinPoint series) >>>>>>>>>>>>> (WD = Seagate) >>> Maxtor

Quieter plus low temps but it has lesser warranty.
