My system is running mostly 24/7 since an year. And no problems at all. It mostly depends on that whether the electricity is stable at ur end means no low voltage or no shocks. And I don't keep my lcd on 24/7 it is only on when i m siting on my pc.

I was running my laptop 24x7 without any problems.

my PC's been on non stop(except for load-shedding) since i got DSL installed a year back and i bought a used PSU for rs. 300 1.5 years ago, but still no problems wid the PC, i even use the PC on the generator but no problems, trust me it not a problem if u run ur pc fr no matter how long

my pc is on all the time depends upon ups and loadsheeding conditions i used my laptop to render a 3d visuals in heavy application (3d studio max 9 ) my laptop was on for more than 48 hours with cpu constant usage of 100% .....

I use a laptop 24/7 for downloading. The only issue is accumulation of dust on exits and consequent heating if it isn’t cleaned regularly.

I have a headless unbranded PII celeron for downloading torrents which has been running now for almost 5 years straight without a ups. I have taken down the sides for ventilation. Further, it has a graphic card and a LAN card only to reduce its electricity consumption.

^ do you mean it's turned on from 5 years without being turned off for anytime in this long time period? :/

Is this a record for a PC???

As far as LCD's are concerned, they have a backlight which is usually CCFL, and consequently it has a specific life in hours. Though if it is a good quality one, it should run for a long more hours. Mine ran for around 14000 hours before its backlight went dead, which is a lot for a 6/7 years old LCD.

As for other equipments, I think Hard disks and low quality PSU are next to give you problems after like 5 years or so.

if you have a good cool environment then there shouldn't be any problem for laptop. same goes for desktop but your power supply also should be good.

Is any harm caused if computer remains ON 24 hours a day…??Has any1 experienced any problems while doing that and what damage can be done if the computer remains ON…???

I have seen many people running into problems with the monitor or LCD while keeping computer ON!!!So what’s your point of view…??

my PC is always on, i just switch off the monitor when i am away but if you keep it on all the time make sure you have a voltage regulator/stabilizer or even better a UPS. the stabilizer will prevent the sensitive parts inside your CPU (there are plenty) from burning when there is a severe voltage fluctuation or abrupt power failure and if you have a UPS the power shutdowns wont affect it becuase sometimes when my power goes down my harddisk boot order gets reset or some software configuration such as netmeter goes corrupt which is not much of a problem
