PTCL Smart Tv android app not working

#1

Hi,

I have a 4MB PTCL connection but no smart Tv service. The 4MB connection allows free usage of PTCL's smart TV app.

My current setup is such that the PTCL modem (an-1020 something) acts as a modem (i.e. is in bridge mode) and connects to my TP-LINK wdr-4300 router's WAN port - i.e. my wdr4300 does the PPPoE connection.

I added the 0/102 profile for the smart tv app on the ptcl modem, and the smart tv app (aka smarttv.com.pk) works on my laptop. However, it doesn't work on my android phone (Sony Z3 on 5.1.1 and is NOT rooted). The app logs in successfully but when i click a channel, it displays loading for some time then gives me an error: "Play failed, please check your network."

Anyone knows how to solve this issue?

Hello!

The (newer) Smart TV App is for the OTP service (Over The Top) meaning to say that it uses your broadband connection to stream video(s) just like any other web streaming service! No other configuration is necessary except

- service needs to be activated

- username and password must be known

- compatible device (usually this is where more issues are faced)

One can bind 3 screens (tablet, pc and mobile) but can use one/1 only at any given time for the free service for 4Mbps or higher customers ... more simultaneous sessions require purchase of extra 'license(s)' ... one can also unbind devices (upto 2 times a month for free) when switching to other device(s)

At launch, the service was not working that well but now it works much much better (I tested on an Android device and streaming improved considerably after the app was updated sometime ago)

Regards,

Ahmed

I think it might be that it doesn't support my phone. I've emailed the ptcl app developer. Let's see what he does.

The IPTV you are talking about(the one that works thru 0/102 bridge) needs this application to work on phone.

http://ptcl.com.pk/uploads/webtv-tv6.zip

and this one for PC

http://ptcl.com.pk/uploads/Smart TV PC App.zip

don't use the play store app.. as you will have to make account and stuff and may get charged for it.

Wow thanks! The app you linked works…though it is a bit buggy (changing channels freezes video, requires switching apps to see the changed channel).

The play store app is free, i’ve checked.

the trick is to first press back and then change channel… i.e. change channel from the main screen… not from the scroll view on the side…

The above Android & PC App doesn’t work at my end. PC app was working fine about a month ago, but suddenly stopped working. I called 1218 and they said that those services are closed now.

Please help me. Am I missing some settings?

Hey, I also tried the smart tv pc app on my laptop…it’s better than the browser based solution they have! the picture quality is pretty good.

Unfortunately, it’s not working on my windows 10 pc for some reason. Any idea for a fix?

may be you should check in your router whether the 0/102 bridge still exists?

people at 1218 dont know sh*t… freaking illiterates I tell you… they are just reading off scripts provided to them without knowing what exactly they are talking about…

right click and “save link as” this file (its a VLC playlist)

http://shoukat.me/ptcliptv.xspf

and run it in VLC… check if it works…

P.S. your definition of “good picture quality” disturbs me… :) but I guess its better than Cable TV sometimes…

Thanks for your help. I solved the issue. My other pc is behind a client bridge - this causes multicast streams to not go through or something. So if anyone ever faces this unique problem, to solve the issue (assuming you are running dd-wrt on your client bridge router):

- go into Wireless > Basic Settings tab
- at the end of your wireless interface config section check the “Advanced Settings” checkbox.
- change “Network Configuration” option to "Unbridged"
now you should have a few more settings available
- set “Multicast forwarding” to Enable
- choose an IP address for your WiFi interface (something easily remembered, but not sure if it really needs to be different from the ethernet bridge IP)
- fill the subnet mask field as well
- click “Apply Settings”
- take note of the wireless interface name you just configured (usually is ath0)

- go to Administration --> Commands tab
- paste the code below into the commands textbox

Code:
sleep 20
echo -e “quickleave
phyint br0 downstream ratelimit 0 threshold 1
phyint ath0 upstream ratelimit 0 threshold 1
”>/tmp/igmprt.conf
sleep 20
igmprt /tmp/igmprt.conf

- change ath0 with your interface name (if it isn’t ath0)
- click “Save Startup”
- reboot your device

Hey, thank you for all your help.

I noticed another issue in both the PC and Android app. Whenever i’m watching a particular channel, after some time (like maybe 5-10 minutes), the stream starts lagging and looping at a point or freezes and I have to change the channel and load the previous channel again to continue watching. Any idea what the problem is?

Who the hell wants the watch CRAPPY, 3rd / 4th Class Pakistani TV channel with mindless bullshit on air 24/7? Seriously, get a life.

No, it cant work on other providers. because PTCL uses broadcast address range for IPTV which is only accessible in internal network i.e. PTCL

This in itself is a topic. I used to have a cable connection for tv, later went for tv services provided by PTCL and learned later that its called smart TV. For smart tv PTCL provides a device (probably and android box) which is connected to the modem / router which in turn is connected to the TV using HDMI cable.
To all broad band users above certain level of connection ( I think 4 mpbs) PTCL also provides free access to smart tv application + web based access to smart tv (for laptop/ desktop).
Are all these forms that is TV (through modem+ptcl device+ tv) and phone/tablet and Web based login are to be named as using smart tv apps and counted as one screen each?

Also if you can answer my question of use of modem cum router devices like TD-W9980 and wdr4300 to REPLACE modem or / router of PTCL for ip tv, phone and internet services.
