1) What is the purpose of buying a printer? Do you want to print out a 1000 Page ebook?

2) HP and Samsung

3) What is your budget?

4) LaserJet Black & White printers generally produce 2000+ printout and are cheapest to maintain.

You haven’t answered my question completely.

Do you need duplex printing? Page size support? Multi-function support (print, copy, scan, fax)? Printing technology (laser, inkjet, etc)? Color? Black and white? Network connectivity? Multiple device support (e.g. mobile phones, etc)? Average monthly print volume?

#8

i need duplex printing.

page size support yes ofcourse... not sure about the size ... tell me what options are there for page size so i can better answr.

scanner i do have. fax is not required, and print/copy mean ?

i heard laser printers are good.

black and white is fine. as i dont have to print images or photos.

network connectivity.... good to have if not break the budget.

multiple device support - optional ... budget matter here i guess it will cost 20k rs. :(

avg monthly print vol : 200 min and max 500 i believe 200-250 will be more than fine.

8-10k max budget if i can get used branded in 5k thats great as long as that work perfect. but one thing i like to mention i have no plan to change printer before min 3 years.

Only manual duplex is possible due to your budget constraints which can be done with any printer.

Google it.

A4 and legal are common.

All-in-one not required.

Used printer is a risk with regards to longevity and reliability. Sometimes the gamble works, sometimes it doesn’t.

I have only used HP so I will consider only that one brand.

Cheap option is a Deskjet/Officejet printer. It’s ink is expensive in the longer run despite market refills instead of new cartridges. Not all kinds of paper qualities can be used with it since the ink has a tendency to diffuse/spread on absorbent paper and needs some time to dry depending on media. All-in-one options might be available under 10K.

LaserJets are a bit more expensive upfront but give higher number of prints per cartridge/toner so lower running costs. It can print on most paper media. Due to heating involved in the printing process, only certain kinds of plastics can be used for transparencies, etc. LaserJet P1102 and LaserJet 1102W (wireless) are both suitable for you. Both are around the 10K mark, with PKR1000 difference between them. The latter supports wireless connection. Both have support for USB connection to computer. Full specs can be read at: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01999607

i recently researched alot about printers in Pakistan but nothing i can find in my budget even discontinued models are damn expensive in Pakistan, what i needed was laser printer with Scanner Copier auto duplex large paper tray plus lan network connectivity...

all available printers with these specs in market exceeds upto 25k…

@armada: For AIO laser printers, you need to cross into M200 series or above territory (M400, M500 or similar enterprise class devices). However, the latter are in a different class of reliability and cost than use-them-and-dispose-them cheaper options.

#12

take a look at hp laserjet 3052. have been using for 2-3 years. u can get used one in 10K. i bought it from a reliable shop in my city.

Considering your budget and needs. I would suggest HP LaserJet Pro P1102W.

For auto duplex, you should go for M401D/M401DN and similar. Manual duplex is not much extra effort; it just requires the printed pages be manually flipped once to continue printing on the other side of the paper.

Paper sizes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_size#A_series

A4 and Legal are common sizes used for most printing.

3 - Yes, black and white laser.

4 - It can connect to wifi network. You can also connect via USB and share printer through computer.

#16

For enterprise grade reliability and longevity, you should be looking at above 50K minimum for new printer. Normal refill costs vary depending on toner/cartridge. Ask in computer markets the refilling cost for specific toner/cartridge which your selected printer uses. It can be refilled 2-5 times depending on quality before needing replacement.

what i get is... auto duplex is just a name and same thing we can do with normal printer ( or in other word every printer have functionality to do manual duplex = 2 side page printing )

Correct me if i am wrong

No. Auto duplex automatically prints on both sides of the paper. At times, you can even force auto duplex printing to conserve paper and reduce overall printing costs.

Manual duplex entails manual flipping and it cannot be forced as a setting. A misprint or out of sequence printing will waste paper.

It's all about convenience. For your requirements and print volume, manual duplex seems to be sufficient.
