I currently have a system with a P4 2.8 MHz processor. As part of my work, I have to use multiple applications simultaneously (10-15, including java applications) and my system gets very slow. Therefore, I need a system which is at least many times better than this one. I'm willing to spend in the range of 55-60 K and eyeing at the following specs:

Processor: quad core (or core 2 quad, don't know the difference)

 • must be better than all dual core (or core 2 duo whatever it is) except for the extreme series.
 • 1333 MHz FSB
 • will normal air cooling work, or whether I'll have to use some additional cooling? My room temp goes to around 35°C in summers.

Motherboard: Compatible with the above processor at 1333 MHz

RAM: 8 GB –– which module(s)?

Video Card: 512 MB/256 bit (I'm not a gamer)

Single HDD: 1.5 TB (or more if available)

DVD Writer: SATA (latest)

Casing: with emphasis on cooling

Power Supply: ??

I can visit the local market and websites and watch out for prices/quotations, but I want to gather the opinions of:

 • Any hardware experts that visit this forum
 • Others who are familiar with the above-mentioned things, especially those having personal experience.

Thanx

My guess is probably far from the best, but here's my shot at it:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz (6MB Cache - 1333Mhz FSB) or Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66Ghz (4MB CACHE - 1333Mhz FSB): Both cost Rs.15300

Intel DG41RQ (LGA775-SND+AGP+GIGA LAN-1333MHZ FSB) PCX Slot: Rs.5050 (I don't know much about motherboards so I hope this is compatible)

Seagate 1500GB 3.5" HDD 7200RPM 32MB Cache (ST-31500341AS) : Rs.13800

Corsair XMS2 CM 2GB-6400/800 Bus XMS Xtreme Speed Gaming Memory: Rs.2600x4= Rs.10400

ASUS DVDRW 22X IDE (22B2S): Rs.2400

XFX GeForce PCX 9600GT 512MB (256-BITS) DDRIII: Rs.8100

Cooler Master Chassis CM Elite with 350W Power Supply: 4150.

Total Rs.59200

What kind(with name) of softwares are you using?

We will guide accordingly.

Zeshan

above all, i am surprised that you want to use 8GB RAM,

Remember brother using XP (32 bit) or Vista (32bit), there is no use of RAM more than 3GB.

So first decide about the OS, 32bit ot 64Bit

intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Rs. 20200

Asus P5QPL-AM Rs. 5500

CORSAIR XMS3 DHX DDR3 TRIKIT 3X6G-1333 ( Dun know about it's comaptibility with the mobo) Rs.10800

GeForce 9400gt 512mb ( Maybe this would be enough, you are not a gamer) rs. 4200

Seagate 1500GB 3.5" HDD 7200RPM 32MB Cache (ST-31500341AS) : Rs.13800

Cooler Master Chassis CM Elite with 350W Power Supply: 4150

Total: 58650

^This one seems like a better suggestion, only the GPU isn't as powerful.
If 350W is not enough, go for Cooler Master CM690 (690W) which costs Rs.6300, putting the total at Rs.61350.
Bro CM690 doesn’t hav any powersuply and who told u that if its CM690 then it would be having a 690w psu??

here’s my suggestion:

Q8400 for Rs.15300

Asus P5KPL-CM Rs.4100

Ram Corsair dominator 1066 bus 2 x 2GB = 4GB for Rs.7300

Graphic card EVGA 9600GB 512MB (256 bit) for Rs.7950

Hard disk seagate 1500GB for Rs.13800

Asus/Sony DVDRW for Rs.2300

Powersupply Asus 500w for Rs.5000

Casing CM690 for Rs.6200

total Rs.61950

That’s the absolutely best u can buy at that price

^Sorry, made a mistake. I don't really know about PSUs. Made a false assumption. I'll remove it.

lol @ 690W PSU :D

agree a little with Evil Dust :). here are my FEW personal Recommendation as you are not a Gamer but almost like a Gamer ;) .

Q9400 2.66Ghz (6MB CACHE - 1333Mhz FSB)

Mother Board MSI P45 Platinum

Ram Dominator DHX Trikit - 6 GB (2x3=6)

Corsair HX 620W PSU

CM Casing

Seagate Hard Drive - Sata II

MSI 9400GT / MSI 9600GSO . (read some issue abt XFX in temps/heatsink)

Bros, thanx for your time and suggestions

will go through these and then decide on what to have

yes I'll be using 64-bit, probably Windows 7

win7 with 8GB RAM...ur PC will fly like a charm dude....win7 awesome wid speed!

@zeeshan: bro 4gb of ram with higher speed is much better than 8GB of ram with lower ram speed. so i think u should go with what i've suggested.

@Baber Kamal

So you are recommending this one

http://www.corsair.com/_datasheets/TWIN2X2048-8500C5D.pdf

Also

 • will it make any difference if I choose a DDR3 motherboard? if so, then which one you would recommend and in that case, which RAM module?
 • what is the difference between EVGA 9600GT 512MB & XFX 9600GT 512MB
 • are there any issues of overheating of quad core using normal heatsink?

Yup i’m recommending the same rams as shown in the link.

Don’t go for DDR3 with Quad core coz even DDR2 with 800MHz bus is enough for Quad cores, DDR3 is for Corei7 but that will be out of ur budget. But don’t under estimate the power of Dominator DDR2 1066Mhz bus rams they are one of the best rams available here in pakistan.

Evga 9600GT is better choice now days coz xfx 9600GT which is coming now days is not an actual 9600gt infact it’s a crippled version with less no. of stream processor (less than 64) and it also has a very bad and small cooler installed on it due to which gets overheated, while evga 9600GT is an acual and real 9600GT with full slot cooler.

Quad cores always get hot no matter what sort of heatsink u using, but u’ll be using ur quad core at default speeds or with a mild overclock so in that case stock heatsink would be enough if and only if i’ts installed in right manner (Tightly with all pins in place properly).

@Baber Kamal

Thank you very much for explaining all this.

@Any members from Rawalpindi

Kindly suggest some good stores in Rawalpindi

zeshan, first of all, check the prices at galaxy.pk. Once you have a rough idea, go to the Dubai plaza on 6th road and look around in the shops to find the best deal. There are no good stores as almost all of them have price differentiation on different components.

I ll suggest you to go Blue Area instead of RWP, you can have almost same rates of galaxy from media inc, as they are the partner of Galaxy in ISB. Check the prices on IKC, PC House, PC Velley, Munir Brothers.
