Pakistan Navy's newest Ship

[quote=", post:, topic:"]

In September 2008 the US Congress approved selling the frigate to Pakistan with a delivery date of August 2010.[5] Citing the Foreign Assistance Act and the Arms Export Control Act, Pakistan is considered a “major non-NATO ally”, able to receive older unneeded US military equipment. Additionally, the 32 year old frigate will be given a 65 million dollar refurbishment including anti-submarine capability paid for with foreign military aid provided by the U.S to friendly countries.[6][7] The ship will be deactivated by the US Navy on August 31, 2010 in preparation for the transfer to Pakistan.[8] Pakistan will pay $78 million for the 30 year old frigate. It will be named PNS Alamgheer

It could have a great if it also came with this kid http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MQ-8_Fire_Scout

Decommissioned: 31 August 2010 by US navy , i think we should advance our own ship manufacturing plants with China instead of collecting crap worth millions ....

We should invest more in our Education, Health and Research sectors rather spending money on purchasing war items or something related to this.

First we need to stand on our foot, people are dying here from flood, terrorism, high inflation and our govt and military spending money on such items.

These are not just items, it could have rather gone to a to Ship breaker in India if our Navy hadn’t purchased it. :lol:

my question to yousef OP you titled it newest ship, is it humor from your part how could 32 years old ship technically scrap metal be classified as new? if you go back 32 years then i am pretty sure 99% of this WP forum members weren't even born then.

Our Government sure is stupid. Worst timing for such a thing. Just think how many people could have been fed and rehabilitated with the $78million.

this is not government money, its part of american military aid from which it will be deducted.

Its still a waste of money. And who knows maybe that ‘aid’ is actually a loan that has to be paid back? Regardless, Pakistan will have to pay for the upkeep of this obsolete rust bucket.

I never pointed out who’s money it is. Rather the opportunity cost.

Scrap for the swiss, but still good gesture to give non-military copters for free.

Well, it was humorous and serious both. Serious in this way as it is the latest one to join Pakistan Navy and was prompoted as such on our TV channels (Army’s Stick)
