Need Help for buy RAM

#1

My motherboard is D845GVFN & Processor is Intel 2.4GHz FSB is 533MHz. I have using only 256MB RAM with 266MHz Bus Speed. I want to buy 1GB RAM more.

But 1st problem is 1GB RAM has 400MHz Bus Speed. Can this will support my motherboard? The Shopkeeper was saying Yes. But I want 2 ask you guys yes or not.

2nd what U say I buy new RAM or Branded RAM. Is branded RAM works good or not?

Please Post your comments.

yes this ram will support your mother board, but its performance would reduce to 266 MHz due to the other 256 ram, i had same board in past. I think new ddr1 ram is short in market so its price is very high. but a used 1GB could cost you around 2500. I didn't ever buy a branded ram so cant tell you about its performance.

Thank U ennay :) Yes DDR1 is short and here the branded 1GB price is 2000.

What U say if I change the 256MB 266MHz RAM to 256MB 400MHz Then this will increase the performance?

And enney whose 3D Card works well on this board. Tell me the Model and price of that.

Others members what U say about branded RAMs ;)

Crucial.com

A memory scan will help you loads.

Branded RAM isnt worth the price unless you are a heavy app user, which by your specs you arent :P

Intel 845 has DDR support for max 266 MHZ. All the DDR memories are backward compatible. Inserting a 400 MHZ on 845 will make it run at 266 MHZ.

*beep*

845GEBV2 Handles ram upto 333MHz.

400 MHz only if the Processor FSB is 800MHz (2.4C and upwards)

\\

Speaking from experiance on a 845GEBV2

Your issue might be mobo and not chipset specific.

After memory scanning Result Shows that

1st 1GB

Part #: CT12864Z335 DDR PC2700 CL=2.5 Unbuffered NON-ECC DDR333 2.5V 128Meg x 64

2nd 1GB

Part #: CT12864Z40B DDR PC3200 CL=3 Unbuffered NON-ECC DDR400 2.6V 128Meg x 64

I think this will support 400MHz. What U say?

According to your memory scan you don’t have one 256mb stick but two 128 mb ones. So what you will have to do is replace one 128mb stick with a 1gb one.

Also regarding speed since your mobo supports a max of 333mhz ddr will it make a difference if your ram modules run at 266MHz? Probably not a difference you could feel. So no.

Regarding graphics card your mobo does not have AGP or pci-e so there is really no point in buying a graphics card. A used pci graphics card is all you can get and I doubt there are any that are much better than the intergrated graphics built into your mobo.

You already have a DDR 400 ram working. This would work too.

Id suggest getting rid of the present modules and getting 2 512 mb modules. 1300 x 2 rupees = 2600. Around that. Ram would work better with both channels filled.

Make sure to not invest in an AGP/PCIE card. Max you can get is a PCI card, for dedicated graphics. Get a 32 MB Voodoo or something, provided you can find it. Id suggest selling the mobo and getting an 865, that way you keep the ram, and the processor, and get AGP.

Or just do a "kaam chalao" till(and if) you can buy a new machine :P
