Must Have Free Softwares for Windows

1 - Video

SPlyer :-

The Chinese Based SPlayer is one of the best Free Video Player out there. It can handle anything you through at it and GPU Accerlation mean it won't bog Down your PC.

KMPlayer

If you don't like the interface of SPlayer, the Best Alternate IMO is the KMPlayer. Runs Everything and is one of the most Feature rich Player.

2 - Compression

Haozip:-

A Compression Tool is a must have now a days. Haozip is the best Free tool for compresion i have seen. Way better than Winrar, 7-Zip, Peazip etc and oh! You don't feel like your using a 98 software on a 2011 PC.

3 - Torrent

Utorret :-

I don't really hav to explain this one. You know what it does, and if you don't, nevermind....

4 - Antivirus

Microsoft Security Essentials:-

Though most of you will say AVG Free or Avast personal is better than MSE but trust me this one is the Best. Have tried all of them and at the end MSE is the simplest and provide best Intigration with Windows. And you can forget you even have this after installation.

5 - PDF Reader

Foxit Reader :-

Foxit Reader is my personal Fav. Much lighter on the system than the Adobe Readoer.

these and some other useful apps comes pre installed on custom Windows

Better Alternatives than OP mentioned:

1. Video: MPC-Home Cinema, enough said.

2. Compression: 7-zip. Nothing else comes close.

3. Torrent: Utorrent, though it is getting bloated each passing day.

4. MSE: Gotta agree on that one.

5. Adobe Reader is better. Foxit feels unfinished compared to adobe.

Yeah MPC is good but when it comes to features like Subtitle sync etc KMPlayer is the best (Atlesat IMO)

And as for Haozip. You didn’t even tried it. It ain’t that populer here cx its a chinese software but believe me, its way better than 7-Zip.

Why not VLC Player? On my system SPlayer chokes on MKV files i.e. skips video frames while VLC works fine. Only advantage SPlayer has over VLC is that it tries to automatically downloads sub-titles.

I’ve extensively tried almost every other media player known to exist in the world today. My final verdict is still MPC-Home Cinema. Reason being, its light, its extremely customizable, it gets the job done, the DXVA isn’t broken unlike many others who claim 100% hardware acceleration :). As for the compression software, I don’t need to try anything other than 7-zip, because honestly, there’s no need to. 7-zip is the fastest zip archive program in the world known today.

Oopsi. I Just forgot about MPC-Home. it started causing problems a while back and i just dumped it. The prob turns out to be with Registry. Will try it again.

BTW still do try Haozip. After using Haozip 7-Zip just don’t work for me.

MSE is "free" only for machines running genuine Windows which is a rarity in Pakistan.
