MSN services not working

#1

im using LinkDotNet, and i cant ping addresses like msn.com, hotmail.com, login.live.com

though the dns resolves the ip address but it cant b pinged, and so im unable to use windows live messenger and check mail

while using a proxy server i can access MSN services....

any reasons why im facing this problem.....and is it happening to others too....???

Pinging has nothing to do with it... in most cases.

Can you perform a traceroute? If so, where does the tracing stop? Sometimes it's their geographic distribution of servers - and one of them could be down (I don't know how MSN works, but it could be possible).

And in either case, do let me know the results for the traceroute. I'm using WOL (and I'm in Messenger right now). I can't perform a traceroute over dialup - it doesn't let me.

1. Ping is used to check whether u can access a certain node or not, and it also tells about latency...

2. My net has having some complicated issue ( as LDN CSR says)

- There's nothing wrong at ma pc or router configuration.

- The DSL is working fine, line margins are fine and DSL lite is steady

1. When ever I ping any host, let it be the DNS, i get about 10 smooth pings of about 40ms and then a request times out, and its random.

2. When the CSRs at LDN ping ma ip address they get the same kinda results. ( Even if i disconnect the PCs from the router, to show that deres nuthin wrong wiv pc)

3. The msn problem is yet another thing...

even if ur services are up u cant ping most of the sites hosted on microsoft network..ping requests are blocked.

may be, but still i dont think so…(i noe there are many sites, that dont allow ping)

+ leave the ping…I have two pcs and one “internet via wifi” enabled pda…on all the three machines i cant access any msn services, and using a proxy i can…

#7

it seems like ur isp is having problems...maybe a proxy or a dns problem ? Every thing is just fine over ptcl.. even though i get time outs after hop 12 when doing a traceroute

#8

i registered a complaint, and they say they have checked there configuration on all ends, and now will send a technical engineer to home to check line, router and pc configuration..............

and i am damn sure he wont be able to fix it

#9

its an isp or backbone side problem!

#10

yes its isp problem i had same problem but now i am using all by changing proxy

#11

dudes i figured out the problem...simply change your MTU, at routers connection configuration to 1492, 1440 or 1436....

The CSRs at LDN keep tellin us to change it to 1500(though its for ethernet) and 1492(is for PPPoE)

i dint undastand how this MTU is linked to a few sites such as msn......though changin to 1492 makes msn work and changin to 1500 makes msn stop workin

mine are working full time. ptcl.
