Was looking through Time's 50 Best Websites of 2008, and came across
Seems interesting. If you have some time in the day and want to say improve you vocabulary (other subjects are also present), answer a multiple choice question and by doing so, you also donate some rice to the UN World Food Program. Just found the site yesterday, so still looking through it. See FAQ to see how it works.
Was apparently voted Charity Find of the Year 2007 by Yahoo,
Also snopes seems to give it the clear,
Another site mentioned in the above snopes link is www.thehungersite.com. Just click on the "Click here to give --- it's free" on the webpage "once daily". One of the sponsors listed is Mercy Corps. Googled Mercy Corps and they seem to operate in Pakistan as well. Wikipedia has them listed as "The Sitara-i-Eisaar (Star of Sacrifice) award, presented by General Pervez Musharraf, the President of Pakistan, in recognition of Mercy Corps' relief efforts following the 2005 Kashmir earthquake."
I just found these sites yesterday, so if there are any concerns etc. about them, do share any bewares. Seem to be legit. And a few seconds daily to click a link, or to donate while learning seems to be a good thing. Even if it is a small charity, little is better than none. I visit m-w, dictionary.com a couple of times in the week for "words of the day", so why not go to freerice and learn while doing something helpful to others. Btw, I am not associated with these sites, just came across them and thought it worthwhile to share.
