Important: find your DSL modem & DSLAM chipset? (attn: filecruz)

#1

I am trying to use a modem which carries the same chipset as that of the DSLAM equipment (i guess i am referring to DSL card). How do i do that? PTCL does NOT tell me anything. Any help? I am told that there are certain tweaks for certain chipsets ,for instance, controlling margins.

#2

i think u want to uncap right ?>

but it will b all in vain.

#3

i prefer stability to speeds. Higher margin shall reduce the frequent DC issue. Moreover, uncap stuff does not work on ONU.

My intention, the same as http://www.e-eeasy.com/netgear-router-problems.aspx

Using Aztech DSL605EW, ive found out that

(ONU)Exchange side equipment carries Globespan chipset

(COPPER)Exchange side equipment carries Broadcomm chipset

Method:

Telnet to the router

open shell

get contents of the file /proc/avalanche/avsar_modem_stats

using the command

cat /proc/avalanche/avsar_modem_stats

Look for ATUC vendor code.

Use the KEY to identify chipset.

For modem chipset, the same file lists the ATUR hex code

It can be converted to relevant string using http://chxo.com/scripts/hex2string.php

I found out that the xdsl chipset of my modem is by Texas Instruments.

[KEY]

ATUC Vendor Codes = Chipset

414C4342 = ALCB Alcatel (ST Micro)

414E4456 = ANDV Analog Devices

4244434D = BDCM Broadcom

4753504E = GSPN Globespan

4946544E = IFTN Infineon (Huawei)

53544D49 = ST Micro

54535443 = TSTC Texas Instruments

544D4D42 = TMMB Thomson Multimedia Broadband

My ATUC came out to be: 4244434D = BDCM Broadcom

But ATUR is somthing like: µTSTC

I hope i m not wrong about ATUR.

TSTC is Texas Instruments. So, your modem carries Texas instruments xdsl chipset.

Do you have aztech or shiro?

xdsl chipset at exchange end is by broadcom. So, try to get broadcom based dsl modem like Huawei, Fiberhome, ZTE, Zxyl etc

which landline? copper or ONU? and which ISP? ptcl or LDN?

hey how to do it with Huawei 550...temme and are u successfull in increasing the snr???
