High Latency?

Assalam Alikum,

Guys Please See The Picture And Tell Me Is This Ping Reply Too High ? As PTCL CSR Told Me That The Normal Ping Reply Is Under 25 to 30ms... But You Are Getting 56+ms time... If This Is Too High Then What To Do ? He Said Scan Your PC... So Should My System Need Full Scan Or Its Some Thing Else Problem ?

well ping depends on a lot of things, first of all your line condition and your distance to the local ptcl exchange.... since thats a khi server you are pinging and you yourself are in sindh it should be around 25-30ms

go to command prompt and type tracert 202.125.132.9 and give the results here so that i can tell where the exact problem lies...

oh and the adsl modulation matters too... you need to open your modem's homepage and see what type of adsl modulation your modem syncs to and what type of latency path its on (fast or interleaved)... fast gives you better pings

it seems quite normal though…these CSRs are quite optimist while giving away figures…lyk you should get around 512KB/s on 4M connection and these stuffs are theoretically 101% okay but not in areas with rusted transmission lines…so if its consistent lyk yours then its normal…enjoy!

@fareed bro adsl modulation ? where can i see this option in modem i have shiro.. i have posted modem status is that what you r talking about or some thing else... ?

the stats you posted, there is the path mode mentioned there, yours is "interleaved " right now, call ptcl technical support and ask to guide you top change this path mode to "Fast"..... i havent operated on a shiro modem so i cant tell...

so my doing that will it make some difference in my net ?

and i was just browsing the Line Stats - Good SNR/Noise Margin/Line Attenuation values Thread where i see every body has Path Mode Interleaved .. So i guess its not me whho have this but other users too...

just change ur ADSL modulation from ADSL2 plus to G.DMT it will improve ur pings alot

i have this ping reply from day 1 of my dsl service … its been i guess over 2 years i m using ptcl dsl … i get the same reply from day 1… but i did not notice this thing before that this ping reply is very high…

enter usname and password= admin

Advanced tab--> WAN-->ADSL

uncheck all except G.dmt and then apply

this is the procedure if you have ZTE831 series , i dont know about rest.

Yeah man... it has changed :D i used to get 106KB/sec and now i get 155-130KB/sec on direct downloads :D but pings are high
