One of the possibilities is that your RAM is getting saturated. To confirm if this is the reason, leave your computer On for a few hours, but don't use anything on it. Also see the Physical Memory usage, and PF usage in Task Manager when this happens.

A slight chance could be of some missing or corrupted files in Windows, but this seems less likely to me.

#6

My Computer --> Properties -> Advanced - > Performace settings -> click on adjust for best performace

see if its makes things better.. if it does then like Asad-Ahmad has said its cuz ur low on ram ... or maybe ur VGA is getting too hot / bad drivers

or if u want to test ur ram truely uses memtest its a free program that does various tests on ur RAM to see if their is a problem

What have you recently installed? Uninstall it.

Looks to me your icon cache is corrupted as this sort of thing has happened to me before. To fix this, delete IconCache.db in C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data and reboot (it's hidden so make sure you can view the hidden files).

this things happens to me tooo!

just closing and restarting explorer.exe fixes it! i have made a batch file for it!

i dont think its an IconCache.db problem coz the sidepanel in my computer also disappears! this problem is related to explorer.exe

batch file:

taskkill /f /im explorer.exe

start "" "c://windows/explorer.exe"

if you have installed windows in any drive pother than c: change the drive letter in the batch drive
