External H-D

which one is the best external hard drive ... WD Seagate Lacie? 160GB-320GB

WD in my opinion.

WD... is good.

didn't use Seagate.

i bought WD 160 GB when i plug in usb my OS is installing a driver and asking for cd there is no cd with it. not also mentioned on WD BOX...i bought it from galaxy

I m planning to buy an hard disk as backup device too. I am considering 500 GB SATA HDD which is available for 5-5.k ! And enclosure for around 500. So wat you ppl say ? Is that not a better option in term of storage?Is that Enclosure system reliable?

Lol @ 11 gb ghaib. Dude that’s what happens with every device. Check your hard disk, even if its 80gb it will report i think 73gb or something like that. My 250gb hard disk reports only 232gb.

Hard disk manufacturers use the decimal definition of gigabyte. Windows and other OS’ use the binary definition.

Decimal definition is :

1byte= 8 bits

1kb=1000 bytes

1mb=1000kb

1gb=1000mb

1tb=1000gb

Binary definition is

1byte= 8 bits

1kb=1024bytes

1mb=1024kb

1gb=1024mb

1tb=1024gb

So to get the correct size you have do the conversion:

(160GB10001000*1000)/1024/1024/1024=149gigabytes

by the way yesterday i looked on my notebook which has 160 GB without partion there also 147 GB, thnx for 149 GB info. Where i can get Western Digital XP driver when i installed on my laptop there is software setup wd setup i copied all files on my flash drive 288MB

and trying to install drivers from these files and software but no result.*Help*

when i trying to install into my front usb 7-8 times it did not reconize but i had second thought for a moment why not try back USB port. in 4 seconds its reconized.

solved

So it was a problem with the usb port?

Ah happens with me alot :).

yes i still don't get it why is not installing on front USB port?

Back ports, higher USB voltage perhaps.

Actually I meant higher current. Happens to most front panel ports.

Usually one of the two ports in the front will have a higher amperage.

Id strongly suggest you to connect the ext. disc enclosure in the back ports.
