DSL with Ubuntu

#1

I am a new Linux user.

I just wanted to know that how will I configure any DSL connection (PTCL,micronet etc) with Ubuntu 7.10?

#2

I don't think you need to configure anything, i use ubuntu with PTCL and it works great. No configuration needed.

@executionist

What steps do I have to follow to make it work...

and how is ptcl dsl working and how are the services offered by ptcl?

#4

Ali: PTCL services are perfect.I got my 1mb connection last month and i am running it 24/7 without any problem.It rocks!

#5

So you prefer PTCL over all other isps?

#6

Yep..LDN is crappy and only Maxcom is good if you are in Karachi otherwise PTCL is best.

If Ubuntu is able to detect your Ethernet card then it makes a default connection i believe. As all the necessary settings are there on your modem, there’s nothing you need to do. Just plug it in and you are ready to go

Step 1: plug in the ethernet wire into the pc.

There is no step 2.

Unless the DHCP server on the router is turned off. That would add just a couple more steps.
