Blocking sites on PTCL WD150-U modem

ok so, i dont want my younger brother to watch porn. I tried blocking the sites but nothing comes in handy. I even tried using parental control's URL filter option provided on my ptcl WD150 U dsl modem. but still those sites are available on mobile and the fun part is he doesnt even has to use proxy for them lol - yeah type in the address and wuushh the site opens.

How can i block those danm sites please experts advise.

The URL filter only works in HTTP mode. If the website supports HTTPS, and is accessed by the same, it will bypass any rules defined above.

Also, you do not need to provide full URL in the fields above. Simple words will suffice and will broaden the scope of the filtration. Modem checks the presence of any of the words in the URL being accessed, and if found, blocks it.

If you need complete control, you will need a more complex setup than simple modem based blocking.

hmm what setup do i need for that? I have a tplink router with me. It too has access control and parental lock facilities. I can use my modem to bridge and configure the router to dial PPPOE connection with my ISP so that all my internet traffic is router through the router. Enabling this setup can I use access control and parental lock facilities of router to block the sites?

But there is a problem doing that will disable my modem to be used on the internet. And my Desktop PC is connected in LAN with the DSL router directly.
What do you think my action plan should be?

Hello!

For content filtering options:

- you might look into DNS service providers that offer such protection like:

- OpenDNS FamilyShield

- NortonDNS (3 Levels)

- MetaCert, etc..

- you might install a 'safe' web browser on device(s) like:

- K9 Web Browser

- MetaCert Browser and/or Extension/Plugin

- you might use Filtering software on device(s) like:

- WinOS Family Filter/Live Family Safety

- NetNanny, etc...

- you might use Monitoring software:

- some routers that support 3rd party/custom firmware allow monitoring usage per user with logging

- most of the above also support Monitoring

though better education, guidance and efforts on your part (check ratings for TV, Movies and Games ... IMDB Parental Guides, ESRB, PEGI, etc...) could work better than all of the above!

Hope this helps!

Regards,

Ahmed
