Best place to post a job?

Hey Guys,

I'm seeking to hire new php developers and i have listed the position in dawn and rozee.pk. Rozee.pk was good when i just posted the position but now it has slowed down in the number of applicants. What do you guys recommend?

Thanks,

Najam

Sorry, meant hire. Not freelance guys.

@ najamd

No offense, but are you trying to hire PHP programmer so that it will work in your existing software house (that already has plenty of projects and running for years)? If so then this is a genuine reason and sadly you still can't find a decent PHP programmer in Pakistan?

Why I asked that? Because in last few years, I have seen that some schmuck who is illiterate in computer programming but living in foreign countries will "hire" a young man in Pakistan on a very low salary (for example Rs. 10000 per month) then try to get projects from foreign countries on 10 times rates of that poor Pakistan programmer. Earn the profit by giving only 1/10 to Pakistani programmer, while doing nothing.

Even one of my friend in England tried that. I gave him a programmer to work in his "office in Pakistan". But after 3 months that programmer quit the job because he realize he was getting only 1/10 of projects' income.

So, if you are also trying this then good luck :)

By the way, it's not that bad.

Let me explain it a bit before someone misunderstand it:

* Mr. ABC moved to USA.

* Mr. ABC knows nothing about computer programming but he sees that desi computer programmers are earning good figures in USA.

* Mr. ABC gets "office in Pakistan".

* Mr. ABC "hire" a Pakistani programmer Mr. XYZ and place him in "office in Pakistan" on Rs. 10,000 monthly salary.

* Mr. ABC gets programming projects for $1000.

* Mr. ABC gives project to Mr. XYZ on phone/email/fax.

* If Mr. XYZ is a bad programmer, he will quit or fired.

* If Mr. XYZ is a good programmer then he completes project but at the end of month he only gets Rs. 10,000.

* Whereas, Mr. ABC earns $1000 - $123 = $877 for just being smart.

* After couple of months Mr. XYZ realize he is being cheated by Mr. ABC.

* Mr. XYZ quits.

Typical story of Pakistani software houses that work as "branch in Pakistan". :)

I hope that you, najamd, need a programmer for your genuine reasons. :)

Good luck.

What the f*&k? Do you have some kind of a problem? In the other topic. You had told me to stay in topic. Now your replying to my topic with some kind of weird need to make me look like im trying to hire prostitutes for a porn site. Grow up!

Get your facts straight before trying to make someone look bad! Developers also leave software houses if they want more exposure or if they seek a bigger software house!

I am a flash programmer with over 6 years of experience! I do run a software house but i also am the fing owner of every single part of the company. I deal with getting clients, i deal with managing projects, i deal with hiring and i even fix the computers in office myself! I do get projects from abroad but i also put money back into the business! If i was taking advantage of my developers, like you say i might be, why would I have a santro, pay rent for my place and have a old nokia e62?

AND for your information! I am looking for 1 year experience php developer. Willing to pay 15 to 20k. Also we pay overtime and our hours are very flexible. My developers can work any day of the week long as they meet weekly hours. We give a raise based on quality of work and on average every 6 to 12 months. Does that sound like a package where we are trying to take advantage of a programmer?

You obviously have some kind of a issue with me because i could never imagine going out of the blue and writing such a thing and make an individual who is trying to grow his organization look bad. Specially when Pakistan needs every freaking job we can bring here.

#$%#

No, I don’t have issue with you.

Indeed. Thanks for supporting Pakistan.

By the way, if you read my post, I said its OK to “hire” Pakistani programmer and get projects from foreign countries (while you are in foreign country). It’s perfectly OK. It’s some kind of out-sourcing, I believe.

Good luck!

Thanks... It should be noted that web development is a good field.. There are bad companies but also there are good ones.. and for the amount of money it brings to us, it should be more promoted... Best part is the ball is always in the web developers court and if the programmer feels he is not being treated fairly or being taken advantage of, there are tons of other companies ready to hire him in a second..

I agree with you. Well, what I said my earlier post, I stand to it because in last four or so years, I have seen more than 2 dozens software houses closed after initial investment ran out. That’s why I asked you and tried to give a friendly opinion to put your hard earned money somewhere else than in software house especially in this difficult economic time.

Even the third(don’t know exact ranking?) largest Indian software giant is on knees (CEO admitted and resigned that he was showing false figures of 1 billion dollars in accounts).

Having said that, yes there is potential for web developers. Especially in Pakistan, we have lot of talented programmers that are waiting for work.

Programmers do stick to software houses for years and years (just like any other job). If programmers are leaving on a constant bases then software house owner should dig in the reason that why programmers are leaving. Because its hard to get good quality programmers.

so najmad just out of curiosity are from a foreign country or dealing in projects in foreign countries.? if you don't mind me asking?

Web development is my field. There is no field to change to.

Developers do stay and also leave too. My developers most of the times stay for a very long time.

There have always been software houses closing, this is nothing new. Specially at around 2004ish, they were really abusing the software development business and so many closed. Poor management, poor understanding of the field and so on.

I'm hiring developers. I need new and talented guys. If i am not satisfied with the kind of guys i have been getting recently then that does not mean i need to change my business. It just means I'm seeking developers with a higher standard of work ethics, programming background and a determination to take a company up.

Half the time im in Karachi and half the time im in Toronto. Get work from Canada and US.
