Nikon D3200 vs Nikon D5100 - Which one is better?

5100 with kit lens 18-55 is 51k.. and is much better than the 3200 at Still photograpghy.. it also has enhanced video recording limit of 20 min continuous as compared to 10min D3100 of its own generation..

the 3200 has slightly better video recording capabilities as it has more modes to shoot video in... but 5100 is still better at stills than the 3200 due to bigger sensor.. as p[er the mega pixel count.. it doesnot make a difference as unless you print photos, (very rarely) larger than 8x10 (even rarer,) an 8MP pic is extremely large to view on any screen and for storage as well.. a 24MP pic wont make a difference.

5100 even though a bit old, is still very powerful and very capable.. it also accepts autofocus motor lense, which the 3100 didnt, dont know about 3200..

besides 3200 is more expensive..,

Nikon D90 is a good option as well, do consider it.... Don't count Mega pixels at all, I don't shoot more than 6 MP at my D5200 and in D90 biggest advantage is built in focusing motor, it will Support Auto focusing on any lens made in last 20 years. In short you can have cheaper lenses in your kit as well, cheaper in price, not in quality.

Both accepts only AF-S lenses (3200, 5100 or even 5200) while they don't Auto Focus on AF, AF-D lenses... They auto focus only on AF-S lenses (with built in focusing motor).

Yes, after reading lots of comparison articles I have decided to go with D5100 once I have the budget. I also recommend the OP to get D5100 as I have used it a little and the result is simply awesome.

I don't know any 6000 by Canon

Well there is one 600 D and 650 D, I'll suggest to go for 650 D if you prefer Canon, even as compared to D 3200- even then Choose 650 D, It'll be little more than your range, roughly 5-6 K more but that will be better choice than D 3200 or 600 D....

650 D was to compete D 5200 by Nikon actually, so you can imagine that it will be better than 3200 for sure, even if you don't want to be out of limit, even then go for Body only and find a used lens 18-55 or 18-135- that would be more wiser...

Farhan, I'll strongy disagree with you specially on the highlighted points...!!

D 3200 still are as good as of D 7000 or D 7100.....

D 3100 and D 3200 are as good in Still as was D 3000

Reading different reviews there is not a big difference between D5100 and D3200/D3100 with still images. The only thing that matters is the bigger battery and swivel LCD.
