I’ve tried every single one of the AVs out there, including paid ones. None of them are good enough. What I want is the ability to completely shut down the antivirus, not just disable it. Even when disabled, the services running in the background interfere with the login and updates run by steam. I was pulling my hair off as to why downloads were painfully slow in steam, and when I took Avast off, it became quite apparent that they’re filtering the traffic, whether you put it in the exclusion list or not. Wish linux had a steam port just like mac, then its bye bye windows.
As you are a gamer Linux can’t help you now!! There is a very low chance that Steam will come to linux. Interfere with background update means problem with firewall or in AV profile. You can try clam av or BitDefender Free Edition. Both has a av scanner only, you can have a manual update and scan. For real time behavior base protection try threatfire.
I think you are a power user, you don’t need a bolted AV, few tools and You can deal with virus.
