A Public Announcement For Ufone Users

This is a Public Service Announcement for Ufone customers.

I have been using Ufone for some years now. I am a casual

mobile user, by choice. I rarely make calls on my mobile, so

it was always a mystery how my pre-pay cards would just

melt away, months before their expiry dates.

This week I found the reason why. I, along with many other

Ufone users I know, get these annoying SMS advertisements

from Ufone, pleading to use their latest ringtones, services

and whatnot. I just considered them part of the package, a

bother, and usually deleted them without bothering to open

them up.

So when I took my phone to a Ufone service center, imagine

my surprise when the CSR told me that I had, by default,

been receiving Ufone Info Services, which cost Rs. 30/month.

So if I bought a Rs. 100 Ufone card (After taxes, balance

left is Rs. 91), which has a shelf life of 6 months, it would

be left without balance in half that time, thanks to Ufone's

Info Services.

What a disgusting scam. You have to take your SIM to their

bloody service center. Wait for 30-45 minutes to get to one

of their counters and then get this thing removed. Try using

their HELPline (yea rite) and you can be diddling around for

30 minutes before the automated service hangs up on you.

Atleast, PTCL let you know about their National Package,

before turning it on for everybody. If PTA can extricate it's

head out of nether regions, it might do some actual bloody

work.

Thank you for listening. End rant.

Greedy telcos. Imagine the amount they must be minting through their millions of unsuspecting subscriber base in the same way.

something i said a while ago http://www.wiredpakistan.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=453

They have no right to provide us service without our consent at our own cost. This sort of things happend not on ufone but warid and ptcl does the same. Even some credit card provider does the same. They trying to make fool Pakistanis.

Same here. My old SIM which was on my brother's name has been discarded forever now as there were extra credits being deducted. They failed to find any problem and insisted their system is totally automated and there can never be extra charges. I complained again but they say "talk to the hand" and keep repeating their boring blabbering. Unsurprisingly, I gave up.

Our servant uses a Ufone SIM and he says that

since day one, he has been getting these adverts

from Ufone. Now this guy (along with the millions of

nominally educated Ufone customers), can barely

navigate his way on a mobile to send and receive

calls. Morally and ethically, he is clearly the last

(unsuspecting) person that a Telecom giant should

be targeting to pad their bottom line. These sort of

'chalakiyaN' are beyond the pail.

One household member has got a Mobilink Jazz SIM.

He keeps getting a bunch of junk adverts from them.

I just got done cleaning his inbox and it was filled

with this stuff. Now I am wondering whether I have

to go and get him d/c from any 'services' that Mobilink

may have turned on, by default. You don't have to

go out looking for trouble in Pakistan. It comes and

gets you... at home.

executionist, I hear you man. They're a bunch of

unethical looters. I bet when Ufone managers get

together at high tea, they laugh up a storm, at

their latest 'chalaki' and how nobody can touch

them. No wonder people are fed up of this BS and

are out there putting out their own brand of justice.

Asad_N, I found the staff at Ufone Service Center

to be extremely inefficient, self-righteous and rude.

No wonder they had two armed guards protecting

them in there.

Very interesting, indeed.

If you're on the web, you can log in to your infoserices account and deactivate.... well, that was the case so-many years ago.

And well - surprise surprise! Who owns Ufone? PTCL. Who owns PTCL? Hmmm....

But this is really stupid, I'd say! Ufone's customer services - well - I can't recall the incident well, but they were somewhat inefficient. Sigh..

well in you had to activate this service (called info services) but now as i can see they are automatically activating it which is BullSh*t

did you try deactivating from website?

Ptcl at its worst

How many Pakistanis know to use website???? So, more income for them. There is one consumer right organization in Paksitan to protect rights of Pakistanis but they silent. Who cares??????????????

You have no idea whats cookin in those s***h0les telcos… they are well protected by PTA. money talks… and you and I are just bare naked chickens hanged outside the a desi hotel waiting to get fried.

aw F*** now i know why my balance mysteriously gets used up without making any calls.

f***ing looters.

so how do we turn this info service off ?

I checked my account of ufone and found info service is off. I you do not wish to use info service than you off else you will be charged.

No one knows. I Subscribed to their infoservices when i got my connection (jokes, horoscopes etc.) but they were so bad that i turned them off immediately from their website. I stopped getting the messages but they kept charging me. I recently discovered my balance decreased by 4 Rs. when the date changed so i called them and the guy checked the records and said i was subscribed to their info services. After that he successfully unsubscribed me and i finally stopped getting charged.

On the other thread i said 4 Rs. over the course of 3 or 4 years is a lot of money. But hey wait a minute i saw that ufone is celebrating its 8th birthday  so its 4 Rs. over at least 7 years (as they launched in quetta after 1 year). I have really lost track of time.

^ .. They keep subscribing people at random I suppose. Either that, or any flawed deductions are blamed on info services.

Oh yes just one excuses they gona tell "system error" and the ymade money out of that system error.

thats why i have thrown my ufone sim in clifton sea !!!!

Info services is news bulletins, jokes, horoscopes and that stuff. Not the advertisements for utunes, and all that stuff. Are you sure you arent in your anger confusing two very different things?

Maybe those smses you reply to to get ringtones are a part of Info services? I've got my IS off,and I don't receive those, but my sister (who hasn't) does.

I never subscribed to any service (I delete them at once)

from Ufone and like everybody else, I too thought that

these annoying ads for Ufone services were free. But like

the CSR of Ufone said, I had some Ufone "info" service

turned on --by default-- which cost Rs. 30/month.

Since the removal of the service, the ads, etc have now

reduced to a trickle (thank God) and the prepay cards

now expire, rather than running out before the due date.

Ain't that sumthin.
