KARACHI: The City District Government Karachi has released Rs7.2 million for the immediate repair of CNG buses and replacement of their tyres.

The Executive District Officer of the finance and planning department, Naila Wajid Khan, on Tuesday ordered the transfer of Rs7.2 million to the transport department after approval by Karachi Administrator Fazlur Rehman. The administrator directed the officials concerned to ensure that no CNG bus should remain idle for want of new tyres. —APP

Does it really take 7.2 Million to buy tyres and repairs for less than hundred buses or 200 buses ???

If not why havent the media raised the issue ?

^ When it comes to Governments the "Million" is so small. You should be thankful that they didn't release 100s of millions or Billions.

a good quality japanese tyre for bus like

Bridgestone, Yokohama and Bridgestone (12.00R20) costs between 55-40k

and

A General brand tyre of same dimensions (12.00-20) costs between 20-25k

Whereas, a bus has 6 tyres.

Now,

6x55 = 330x200 = 66000k = 66,000,000 = 66 Million PKR

6x25 = 150x200 = 30000k = 30,000,000 = 30 Million PKR

[RESULT] City District Government Karachi did a very good job indeed.

^They only alloted Rs. 7.2 million. So as per your above result the tyres thy have choosed are crap? :D

Wow, good one, but then like Imran mentioned, this means the cost is too low, and thebuses might come out in crappy conditions.

The last time I saw these buses working was on 2004.

^ there are only 50 buses source: http://url9.99k.org/b

recalculating for 50 Buses:

6x55 = 330x50 = 16500k = 16,500,000 = 16.5 Million PKR

6x25 = 150x50 = 7500k= 7,500,000 = 7.5 Million PKR <--- This one is close

So they most probably are getting General Tyres and not all tyres are being replaced.
